Tekplex is the most versatile Computer store concept to date.  It's not as big as some other computer stores, but the other computer stores don't custom build, they don't configure to suit, and they don't market any computer without any operating system. We do.  And we still beat their prices!   How do we offer so much for so so much less?  It's really quite simple.  THEY OVER CHARGE YOU! 

They make it easy for us to charge less. Here's why:

1) The other guys "bundle" their products with lots of 'junk' software which takes up space, eats memory, wastes time, and you don't want and may never use any of it!  Notice all the little icons in the task bar of the computer your friend just paid over $2000 for and had to sign a long term contract with a high priced ISP to get it that 'cheap'?  All those things are programs running in the background, taking up processor cycles, slowing the system.  So why did they include them?  Because they get paid to by the publisher of those programs.  Now ask your buddy what they are.  Odds are he doesn't even know what they do. Most are shareware versions anyway, so if he wants to use them, he only gets a partial version until he coughs up some more cash.  Even considering that, they still charge you for all that junk. 

2) Name!  Big names cost big money.  You may be familiar with the $200 sneakers that you can get somewhere else without a celebrity's name on them for $20.  Computers are the similar.  Open up a "name brand" computer and a generic one. Look inside.  You won't find the brand name on the parts which make up the computer. There are only a couple of companies making up the processors, AMD and Intel. Both are good, Intel has the bigger name, AMD the faster processor per cycle (confirmed in many tests), and both hold up equally well.  Intel is generally much higher in cost because of the name. Those big name computer companies prefer big name "stuff" in their computers so the choose Intel. So you are paying a lot for the sticker on the case.  There are a number of motherboard makers, many good, some not. Even the big guys generally avoid the worst of those as we do. There are a half dozen or so makers of hard drives, but since most of the public aren't that familiar, the big guys may have anything. What they don't have is their name on the hard drive. It's the same with the floppy drives, the RAM, the CD-ROM drives, the DVD drives, the power supply, etc. 

3) Operating system.  OK, the big guys have a slight advantage on a new Windows XP system when it comes to their buying the OS.  Microsoft makes deals, and gives them a little break if they can sell many at many locations.  You always get a discount for volume, after all. But they also have to agree to push ONLY their current OS.  What's wrong with that?  A lot! If you are buying a system, you want it for your use.  You may not be interested in what some company somewhere thinks everyone should be doing.  Try playing your $15 version of "Deer Hunter" on XP, or even Windows 2000.  It wont work. It was written for the Windows 98 platform, as are many currently popular games and simulations. If you want to spend the next few years having to check every program you buy for XP compatibility and ignoring bargain programs you run across because it wont or may not work on your computer, fine!  We offer XP.  But if you want a computer to play games on, we recommend 98 because it's currently best for it.  We aren't locked in to pushing XP.  We even offer Linux if you want it, and we will make your computer dual boot with Linux AND whatever Microsoft OS you choose if that's what you want, and it won't cost you a dime extra.  If you don't want any OS, let us know and we will knock off the cost and you can load your own.  The big guys will never do that!

4) Service.  The big guys charge for that on the front end and also try to sell you as service policy and extended warranty. Ask them why they think you will need it. Ask them why they have such little confidence in their products.   Sure, if you use your computer for 18 hours every day, sometime in the next three years it will need something.  But how many of those "somethings" are covered? Will you have to add memory for the next Windows version?  What about a new holographic video card which hasn't been invented yet?  A new keyboard after your child poured grape juice into the old one?  None of that will be covered by the extended warranty or the service policy. 

5) Internet.  The big guys make deals with ISPs.  They get your money on the front end and also make you sign up for long term poor quality overpriced internet service to get the still overpriced "cheaper" computer.   If you like AOL, MSN or whatever, that's fine. You can buy your computer from us and use whatever ISP you prefer.  But we offer full service internet, including one standard address PLUS up to two spam filtered address for only $18.95 per month. And since we ARE the ISP, we can offer it to you without regard to where you got your computer. There are no "Three year contracts". None at all. You can sign up, and should you decide you don't want it, you can stop anytime.

We guarantee you as well, that we will NEVER send you advertising like some other ISPs who seem to think their overpriced service is ad supported.  We do not and will not sell addresses or any other personal information, we do not and will not spam our customers.  When your current ISP emails you ads, do they give you a price break for the money they are making from use of your email box?  No, of course they don't.  They overcharge you for service, then sell advertising to dozens of companies to place ads in your box and use the connection you are paying for to overload your browser with banner ads. 

We believe that when you pay for ISP service, you should control how it is used. Your email box is yours, not ours. If you want ads in it, you can give permission for those ads to be sent to whomever you please. Otherwise they are an intrusion, theft of your resources which you are paying for. Our homepage isn't cluttered with dozens of ads. We have no popup banners on our pages. Nothing you click on will open any pages other than what you selected.  We will not email you about anything other than your account. 

We do not spam and we do not allow spamming under any circumstances.  Our policy is zero tolerance, period.
